"In Opido Humiste" - The roots of Imst go way back to the Bronze Age, became a lifeline for the region in Roman times and was first mentioned in a document in 763. In 1282, "Ümst" was granted market rights and experienced a real renaissance thanks to mining and bird breeding. When the people of Imst were granted the privilege of establishing a canvas and cotton factory, the market developed into a textile centre - until the great fire raged in 1822, destroying most of the town. In 1898, a balm was administered to the sore soul of Imst: the market was elevated to town status and the "bubbling spring" and became one of the most vibrant district towns in Tyrol.
