Natural wonders every day
Rosengarten Gorge
It only takes a few minutes and we suddenly find ourselves marvelling at this majestic natural wonder. 1.5 kilometres long, 250 metres in altitude and one of the top 3 most beautiful natural treasures in Tyrol. And yet - this gorge is far more than the sum of its impressive hard facts. At times rippling, roaring, sky-blue, then dripping, cool and dark. Sometimes rocky, dusty, sun-kissed and close to nature at every moment. This gorge is always different, always impressive - always special.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions about the Rosengarten Gorge

The start, as spectacular as this hike itself, leads us straight into the depths of Imst's history. The Berglhäuser magically attract our attention and take us right into the centre of a mighty rock that towers behind St. John's Church. Witness to the last ice age and the centre of Easter celebrations, the Bergl not only plays a key role in the myths and legends of the town. It was a shelter, refuge and home for its inhabitants and tells of hard times. Only the roses in its gardens spread lightly over its roofs, showing us their never-ending splendour.

With an average gradient of 17 per cent, a challenging profile and an hour's walk, the hike through the gorge is part of the Rosengarten Gorge's sporty features. But it's not just exercise, it's also fun. And it loves variety: so we follow its paths, take step after step, walk over wooden plank bridges and effortlessly leave our comfort zone in the direction of hiking bliss!

They bubble with life, take us into the world of water and literally catch our eye: the waterfalls of the Rosengarten Gorge. From its source just below the Alpjoch, the Schinderbach winds its way down through the high alpine mountain landscape towards the Rosengarten Gorge. There, strengthened by numerous small tributaries, it unfolds its true power.

The rocks of the Rosengarten Gorge have always been well-known, famous and infamous. And they still tower high above the gorge today. We find their tunnels in all shapes and colours and scramble our way through the middle of the mountain. Narrow paths, close to the rock faces, take us right through of the mountain. Sometimes the mountains hang so low over the path that we have to crouch to get any further.

A source of true inspiration that we feel when we sit down on its banks and absorb the energy that makes the Blue Grotto a real experience for us. Here at the end of the gorge, we dip our feet in the turquoise-coloured water and come to rest. And so, as if out of the blue, we find a small mine where galena was mined in Roman times and in the Middle Ages and the sparkle of this little hideaway full of (blue) wonders.
Incidentally, the gorge got its name because of the countless alpine roses (just to show off: this is a type of rhododendron), which show off their pink beauty against the grey rocky backdrop in early summer. If you want to see the Rosengarten Gorge in bloom, you should visit in June or July.
