The quiet area of Muttekopf in the southeastern part of the Lechtal Alps is a unique natural gem, distinguished primarily by its geological features and pristine alpine landscape. At an altitude of 2,300 meters, it offers an impressive panorama above the tree line. Particularly remarkable is the highest and best-exposed Gosau occurrence in the Northern Limestone Alps, which impresses with a variety of Cretaceous deposits such as breccias, conglomerates, and sandstones. The famous megabreccias of the "Blauen Köpfe" on the southern slope of Muttekopf make the area a fascinating teaching example of sedimentary geology, attracting geology enthusiasts from around the world.
The fertile soils also promote a diverse plant life that perfectly harmonizes with the animal world. You can often observe ibex in the rocks of the Muttekars.
The quiet area is not only a paradise for geologists, but also a popular destination for hikers. The original paths lead through dwarf pine fields, past alpine huts such as Muttekopfhütte, Latschenhütte, or UALM, up to breathtaking viewpoints Adlerhorst and Sunorama.
