Starkenberg Castle in Tarrenz has been home to the traditional Starkenberg Brewery since 1810. Within the historic walls of the over 700-year-old castle, beer is still brewed today. The brewery places special emphasis on the use of pure spring water from its own source and the supply of high-quality raw materials from local farmers. Ten types of beer and an astonishing 40,000 hl of beer are brewed annually at Starkenberg Brewery. In recognition of this, the brewery has been awarded gold 40 times at the International Beer Olympics and is the most awarded beer in Austria. Titles such as "Best Pale Lager" or "Best Small Brewery in Tyrol" and first-place rankings in Falstaff ratings speak to the quality of the beers.
A special highlight for visitors to the Starkenberg Brewery is the Starkenberger Beer Myth, a unique beer experience world. Covering an area of around 4,000 square meters, a 700-meter-long tour leads through 18 rooms of the castle. Here, you can experience the history of brewing firsthand and gain insights into the development of the brewery. Among the stations are the panorama room with an impressive view of the Gurgltal, medieval vaults, the brew house with copper kettles, and the ice cellar from the 16th century. A tasting is, of course, included in the beer (guided) tour.
After exploring the Beer Myth, the castle parlor with sun terrace invites you to taste the brewery's own specialties. In the brewery shop, you can also purchase various beer products and regional quality goods.
