Bergl Häuser

viewpoint

The Berglhäuser in Imst are an architectural rarity: buildings that have been integrated directly into the rocks of the Imster Bergl. In this construction style, the rear walls of the houses consist of natural rock, giving them a unique character and highlighting the close connection between people and nature in this region.
Historically, these rock-built houses served as living and working spaces. Their emergence is closely linked to the geological characteristics of the Bergl, which was shaped by the Inn Glacier approximately 26,000 years ago. Utilizing the rock as an integral part of the buildings not only provided protection against the elements but also offered natural insulation.
Today, the Berglhäuser are a significant cultural heritage of Imst and a popular photo motif for visitors. They stand as a symbol of historical architecture and the impressive adaptability of people to their natural surroundings. A walk through this neighborhood offers a fascinating insight into the history and lifestyle of past generations.
