The Milser Au in Mils near Imst is one of the last original floodplain forest areas in the Upper Inn Valley and a protected landscape area of outstanding ecological significance. Covering an area of 44.4 hectares, the Au stretches along the Inn River and serves as a valuable refuge for numerous animal and plant species.
The wetlands, old river arms, and gravel areas provide ideal breeding and resting places for rare bird species such as the Common Sandpiper. Migratory birds use the Au as a stopover on their long journeys, and amphibians also find a habitat in the specially created ponds. Particularly impressive is the specially constructed nesting wall for the Kingfisher.
The floodplain forest consists of willows, poplars, and ashes, which give the landscape a primeval, almost mystical atmosphere. These tree species are typical for floodplain forests and contribute to the ecological balance of the area.
A well-developed hiking trail takes visitors through the reserve, allowing them to experience the fascinating nature up close. Along the way, one can discover ponds inhabited by frogs and dragonflies, as well as gravel banks used by waterfowl. Numerous information panels explain the peculiarities of the Au and its significance for the ecosystem. The trail is suitable for the whole family and offers exciting insights into the animal and plant world for both those seeking relaxation and nature lovers.
