The Gurgltal is one of the most picturesque side valleys in Tyrol. It separates the Lechtal Alps from the Mieminger Chain and impresses with a diverse landscape of fields, meadows, and forests, as well as an astonishing number of farm huts. The Tyrolean Gurgltal is therefore considered one of the ecologically diverse and valuable inner-Alpine valley areas in Western Austria.
A special highlight is the Knappenwelt Gurgltal in Tarrenz, an open-air museum that showcases a recreated medieval mining operation. Visitors can explore nine authentically reconstructed buildings and ore processing facilities, including the blacksmith's hut, the stamp mill, and the miners' house. A tunnel illustrates the working conditions of the miners in past centuries.
In addition to the Knappenwelt, the Gurgltal is home to other attractions such as the Salvesenschlucht and the Schloss Starkenberg Brewery, known for its beer experience world.
