Info

The "Ballhaus" (which now houses the local history museum and takes its name from the "bales of goods" stored here) and the "Salzstadel", which was located at the back of the old town hall (now the municipal gallery) and was mentioned in a document in 1483, were among the most important storage facilities in the old market town of Imst. Salt from the salt works in Hall was temporarily stored in the Salzstadl and distributed from here in Imst and delivered to the neighbouring communities and valleys. Imst has always been an important trading centre in a central location.

Culture & Customs-Home Museum-Tarrenz

The Tarrenz Museum of Local History is located in the former stable building of an original Tyrolean farmhouse.

Tarrenz local history museum

Craftsmanship in the Gurgltal valley is vividly presented in the Tarrenz local history museum and guides visitors through the different eras. The farmhouse, built in 1734, offers originally preserved rooms in which the life and work of the rural population can be traced. The gallery, which was once used as a stable and now serves as an exhibition space for numerous vernissages, leads through the cellar to the kitchen with an open fireplace. Even today, "Ziachkiachln" are still baked there in old cast-iron pans according to old recipes. A narrow corridor then leads to the parlour and the tool room. On the upper floors you can experience the old craft techniques of shoemaking, tailoring and weaving. Agriculture was also of great importance in the Gurgltal valley and numerous exhibits bear witness to a life of hardship and privation.
