The Imst Fasnacht House is a very special place where you can experience the exciting tradition of the "Schemenlaufen," one of the most significant Carnival customs of the Alps. This centuries-old tradition was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in 2012. In the museum, you can expect multimedia presentations, historical film footage, and impressive slide shows that bring you closer to the magic and history of this custom. You can experience the elaborate preparation of the Schemenlaufen up close – from carving the intricate wooden masks to building the Carnival floats.
The Fasnacht House also showcases numerous historical and modern masks and has even received the Museum Award of Tyrol. With the IMST CARD, entrance is free, and every Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, you can visit the museum regularly. Guided tours are available by appointment.
