Rivers, Streams & Gorges
Roaring wild and mystical - the gorges, rivers and streams in the Imst region are not only spectacular natural backdrops, but also silent witnesses to thousands of years of landscape formation. From the mighty Inn to the Schinderbach, which has carved its way deep through the rock of the Rosengarten Gorge, to hidden gorges and mountain streams - water has done a great job here. Over millions of years, the power of erosion has created impressive gorges, which today form an important habitat for many animal and plant species. Hikes through the Rosengarten Gorge or the Salvesen Gorge near Tarrenz take you right into the heart of the elements. Here you can feel the power of nature with every step - accompanied by the sound of the water and the scent of mossy rocks.

Wild and pristine to idyllically beautiful - the Inn is more than just a river. The wild Imst Gorge, a paradise for action lovers, meets the tranquil beauty of the Milser Au, one of the last large alluvial forest areas in the Upper Inn Valley. The Imst Gorge between Imst and Haiming is one of the absolute classics among Europe's rafting areas . Just a few kilometres upstream, a completely different experience awaits: the Milser Au, a hotspot of biodiversity. Grey alder forests, disused oxbow lakes and breeding grounds for rare bird species such as kingfishers and sandpipers make this protected area an insider tip for nature lovers.

The Salvesenbach stream has created a real natural jewel over thousands of years: the impressive Salvesen Gorge near Tarrenz. The stream rushes past bizarre sintered limestone formations and layers of rock from various geological eras through narrow rock passages - and even reveals the geological layers when the water flow changes. Particularly fascinating: the striking fold structures on the steep walls, which offer a tangible experience of geology. A highlight for hikers is crossing the gorge over the "Hoher Übergang" - a bridge that offers spectacular views of this natural wonder.
