Carnival every day
Fastnacht in the Outdoorregion Imst
Spectacular, colourful and declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The carnivals in the outdoor region of Imst regularly transform the Tyrolean Oberland into a centre of entertainment and living customs. The carnival dance follows strict rules, some of which go back centuries. The well-known carnival processions in Imst and Nassereith only take place every three to four years and attract onlookers from near and far with their magical spectacle. This lively tradition is celebrated for weeks and in clearly defined annual rhythms. Wearing elaborately carved masks, bears, bear drivers, violin painters and witches parade through the villages and celebrate the victory of spring over winter.
In 2012, the Imster Schemenlaufen and the Schellerlaufen in Nassereith were declared an intangible world cultural heritage by UNESCO. The villages of Tarrenz and Roppen are also the scene of exuberant carnival celebrations every three to four years.
