UNDERGROUND EVERY DAY
Caving
The outdoor region not only offers impressive mountain landscapes, but also fascinating underground worlds. Follow in the footsteps of the secret project "Zitteraal" and explore the tunnel system under the Amberg. Explore the history of this lost place together with professional guides. You will not only walk through the darkness in the deep tunnels and abseil down, but also uncover the secret of an 80 megawatt power station in the middle of the mountain and a top-secret test facility for aircraft construction during the Second World War.

In 1943, a huge transonic wind tunnel with air speeds of up to Mach 1 was to be built near Haiming. The measuring section of the planned high-speed wind tunnel was impressively dimensioned: With a diameter of up to 24 metres and a length of 8 metres, it offered enough space to carry out experiments on full-size objects - even complete aircraft. By comparison, the supersonic tunnel, which was used to test the V2 rocket among other things, only had a test chamber the size of a desk.
