A midlife crisis, three affairs, and countless opportunities to spectacularly fail. Neil Simon's classic comedy full of situational comedy, wordplay, and human abysses.
Barney Silberman runs a fish restaurant, has been married for 23 years, and is in the midst of a full-blown midlife crisis. To give his life new momentum, he plans discreet romantic adventures: he quickly transforms his mother's apartment into an improvised love nest. But what was meant to be an exciting affair turns into a series of hilariously failed seduction attempts, where one thing becomes clear: Barney might be the absolute worst of fiery lovers.
With a fine sense of timing, situational comedy, and interpersonal weaknesses, Katharina Trojer and Peter Wolf brings Neil Simon's frequently performed comedy classic to the stage. Amid absurd dialogues, pointed encounters, and a touch of melancholy, a comedy unfolds about desires, self-deceptions, and the desperate hope to escape everyday life once more. An evening of theater full of laughter, cringe, and the comforting realization that some adventures are better off remaining in the imagination.
