Information

Imster Schemenlaufen
On February 13, 2028, the probably largest and most colorful carnival, the Imster Schemenlaufen, will finally take place again in the Tyrolean Oberland after a four-year break.

In Imst, the probably largest and most colorful carnival of the Alpine region takes center stage. Hardly anyone can escape the mythical allure of this centuries-old spectacle. In a magnificent ensemble of hundreds of masks, the participating groups celebrate the triumph of spring over winter. The central figures of the Imster Schemenlaufen are Roller and Scheller: The youthful Roller dances during the "Gangl" ahead of the Scheller with his impressive mustache.

The order masks Sackner, Spritzer, and Kübelemajen (beware anyone who stands in their way!) clear the path for the two main masks through the crowd. Following the parade of the two most distinguished figures of the Schemenlaufen is a multitude of other figures. The day after the Schemenlaufen, on "Fasnachtsmontag," all participants parade through the town once more. Costumed, but without masks. Thus, the noble activities of the previous day have a somewhat unrestrained continuation.

Schedule:

  • 09:30 a.m. Start of the parade at the town square
  • 12:00 p.m. Start of the procession at the parish church Imst
  • 03:00 p.m. Break at Johannesplatz
  • 05:00 p.m. Closing ceremony at the town square
