Two sisters, an alleged murder, and an inspector who better not look too closely. A dark crime comedy full of boredom, lies, and lovingly malicious escalations.
It is raining in Waldviertel. It feels like forever. Helene and Clarissa are stuck in sisterly love-hate, loneliness, and a boredom that has long taken on criminal proportions. In the past, it was enough to let the bathtub overflow to lure the emergency plumbing service to the house. But after 197 days without any excitement, a larger plan is finally needed.
When a missing person's report appears in the newspaper, the two quickly decide to anonymously accuse themselves of murder to the police. Promptly, the local inspector shows up at the door – complete with a gentlemanly visit. However, what was supposed to be a harmless murder game quickly turns into a web of accusations, contradictions, and increasingly absurd clues. A Murder Sunday is a delightfully quirky crime comedy by Jack Jaquine about curiosity, loneliness, and the question of when a game suddenly becomes bitterly serious.
