Last year, carvers came together for a gathering, among them Benjamin Gabl from Wald, who carves excellent Imster carnival masks, and the Fissian Siegfried Krismer. In 2002, a group of enthusiastic mask carvers called the "Mascherai Alpini" formed around Luigi Revelant in Tarcento, in the Italian Friuli, with the intention of promoting the tradition of the alpine carnival and particularly the folk art of masks. Soon, carvers from the regions of Veneto, Trentino, and Lombardy joined this group, as did mask carvers from Slovenia and Hungary, who became part of the "Consorzio Mascherai Alpini" – the name of this association.
