An impressive classical program featuring Shostakovich's 14th and Honegger's 2nd Symphony. An event in cooperation with the Imst Concert Association.
The St. Blasius Academy, under the direction of Michael Raeber-Köck, performs two 20th-century masterpieces that explore the existential themes of humanity in profound musical language.
Dmitri Shostakovich's 14th Symphony is considered one of the most radical and introspective works of his oeuvre. In eleven settings of poems by Lorca, Apollinaire, Küchelbecker, and Rilke, the composer poignantly explores death, violence, and oppression. The unusual scoring for chamber orchestra, soprano, and bass lends the work an oppressive intimacy that captivates with its expressive power. An artistic exploration of the theme of finitude, including a bold, personal political statement.
